The mission of Breakthrough Miami is to inspire and encourage talented, motivated middle school students to enter and thrive in top college preparatory high school programs and graduate from college. The program is equally focused on promoting careers in education for the outstanding high school and college students who teach , tutor, and mentor in Breakthrough Miami's summer institute and school year program.
Our program places highly motivated low-income students on the path to college in order to break lines of poverty in their families forever. We aim to give children equal access to excellent educational opportunities, including enthusiastic teachers who are devoted to watching our students succeed.
At Breakthrough, our highly motivated students find a place where “learning is fun” and being smart is “super cool”. They receive critical personalized support from our staff and teachers. Our aspiring teachers get a taste for a career in education, while experiencing an incredible service work opportunity.

Breakthrough recruits talented high school and college students to experience a career in education. We measure our accomplishments by the success of our students and teachers in reaching three primary goals:
- 100% of middle school students enroll and succeed in academically
rigorous college-preparatory programs.
- 100% of high school students enroll and succeed in a four-year college
or university.
- 60% of teaching interns pursue careers in education.
